After a 10 day break due to Thankgiving and trips to Israel, the Magen David Varsity hockey team finally played a game. The Warriors were also shorthanded, missing one of their top players, Henry Tawil. The opponent was a formidable, team from Solomon Schechter of Long Island. The game started on the chippie side, with each team trading penalties early in the first period. The Warriors scored on their power play when Evan Levy passed over to Abraham Cohen who scored. A few minutes later, the Warriors struck again when Evan Levy passed the puck over to Solomon Betesh who scored to make the score Warriors 2 SSLI 0. Sloppy play and over aggressive play caused the Warriors to let down their guard at that point. SSLA scored 3 consecutive goals to take a 3-2 lead. The Warriors were able to get one goal back before the end of the first period. This time Abraham Cohen gave Evan Levy a nice pass who scored to tie the game at three before the end of the first period. Once in the locker room, the boys were able to understand what was needed to be done in order to secure a victory. They proceeded to score 7 unanswered goals in the second period. First, Morris Cohen got a pass from Albert Cohen and scored. Then Morris Cohen scored again this time getting a pass from Solomon Betesh. Next it was Evan Levy scoring after getting a pass from Abraham Cohen. Then it was Solomon Betesh scoring when you got a nice feed from Jesse Cohen. Soon after Albert Cohen scored two consecutive goals with both assists going to Morris Cohen. Lastly, Evan Levy scored again when he got a pass call Abraham Cohen. The Warriors scored 7 second period goals to take a commanding 10-3 lead. For good measure the Warriors, tacked on two more goals in the third period.

The MDY Warriors faced off against the Waterbury Wolfpack on Monday night. The first quarter was slow paced to start. The Wolfpack led 11-9 at the end of the first quarter. The pace picked up in the second quarter but the Warriors were not able to get stops. The Warriors were down 24-19 at the half. Both offenses stalled to start the third. The warriors were ignited by Jesse Cohen who made a huge 3 and made big passes. They led 30-26 to end the third. The Wolfpack would not go away as they tied the game early in the fourth. After a huge Asher Melamed steal and layup, and Mark Sardar 3 the Warriors led by 4 with under a minute left. Hudi Kalish drove down the middle for the Wolfpack for an and-1 layup and hits the free throw. Season opener , home opener , what a way for the warriors to start the season.
The first half the Warriors came out strong with a big lead and then due to foul trouble they gave up the lead. Trailing in the second half the warriors played until the very last second. Despite the loss, the Warriors came together as a team and played with confidence , patience , and together. We look forward to our game Thursday where we hope to bring home a win!

Tough start to the season as MDY got blown out in the first period and saw them selves down 5-0 before max shalom scored on an assist from Victor Pahuskin to make it 5-1. The Magen David Warriors varsity hockey team kicked off the 2022/2023 hockey season on the road against North shore. This year the expectations are a bit higher considering that the team made the playoffs last year with  predominantly  sophomore players. The Warriors started out strong and scored a goal within the first three minutes of the game when Morris Cohen stuffed a rebound shot from Henry Tawil putting the Warriors up 1-0. However, the Warriors looked very lethargic and played very sloppy after that letting

the North Shore team scored two goals to take a 2–1 lead at the end of the first period. The Warriors came out much better in the second period and scored two consecutive goals. First by Henry Tawil getting a beautiful pass from Morris Cohen to tie the game at two. Then, a few minutes later Albert Cohen put in a rebound shot that was taken by Sam Falah to put the Warriors up 3–2. The second period ended that way. The third period started with the Warriors playing sloppy again. That sloppy play lead to North Shore tying the game at three. A few minutes later the Warriors answered back. Once again Morris Cohen gave Henry Tawil a pass and Henry scored putting the Warriors up  4-3. The Warriors held on to that lead and even had numerous chances to ice a game once North Shore pulled the goaltender. Unfortunately, that desire to score a goal backfires when with just 20 seconds left North shore tied the game up at four. Once in overtime teams play 3 on 3 plus the goaltender. That leads to a lot more Open space. The tandem of Morris Cohen, Henry Tawil and Albert Cohen dominating but they could not score. The next group of Solomon Betesh, Evan Levy, and Ikey Saff also control the play and towards the end of their shift Solomon Betesh stuffed in a rebound shot from Joey Saff to win the game for the Warriors 5–4. Considering the play was a bit lethargic but it was a nice victory. Hats off to Felix Hadef, Abraham Cohen, Isaac Esses, Joey Fteha, and Isaac Azrak for their amazing contribution to the victory.

The MDY Warriors faced off against the HANC Hurricanes on Tuesday night. The Warriors came out with a large lead in the first and never looked back. The final score was 51-19.
