Our History

Magen David Yeshivah is an Early Childhood through Grade 12 Jewish day school rooted in the Sephardic tradition and dedicated to academic excellence, creativity, and intellectual curiosity. As the cornerstone of the Sephardic community of New York for generations, we are proud to continue to provide an exceptional education while strengthening our community and preserving our traditions.

1946

With much determination and pride, Magen David Yeshivah opened its doors in September 1946.

1953

In 1953 we had the first images of our graduating class. We have grown quite a bit since then.

1963

While the PTA had been around since we opened our doors in 1946. Our first images surfaced from this time. Thank you to the PTA for all your hard work over the years.

1965 Timeline
1965

1965 is when we started to incorporate more clubs and activities for our students. In 1965 we catch a glimpse of our choir.

In the early 70s is when we started ramping up our clubs and teams. Our original clubs and teams consisted of debating, toleh, dancing, chess, music, and more.

In 1970 the first MDY basketball team was formed. These are our original MDY Warriors.

As our school continued to grow we officially opened our early childhood program facility in the early 80s.

1987

In the late 80s and early 90s is when we turned our dreams into reality with the new MDYHS building.

1990 Timeline
1992

While the Israeli day parade has been around since the 60s MDY understood the importance of participating and we joined it every year since the early 90s.

1990

In April of 1990, we opened the new MDY High School building. As an homage to the first graduating class in the new building, we have been taking our group yearbook photos here ever since.

In the early 2000s we unveiled our new Magen David Yeshivah Elementary School.
